How Payment Works
When you book through MauritiusIslandCarRental.com, you pay an advance online by card. The remaining balance and security deposit are handled separately at pickup, according to the terms of the vehicle you select.
Online Advance Payment
The booking widget displays a prepayment amount that you settle immediately by card. This advance secures your reservation with the local supplier. Cash is not accepted for the online transaction. The card interface processes your payment, and you receive a confirmation email with your voucher.
Different suppliers have different prepayment percentages. The booking screen separates the online advance from the balance due at pickup. The exact breakdown appears on the listing before you confirm.
Balance and Security Deposit at Pickup
If the listing shows a balance, you pay it directly to the supplier when you collect the vehicle. The security deposit is a separate hold or charge that covers potential damage, fuel shortage or traffic fines. The supplier releases or refunds the deposit after you return the vehicle in good order.
Payment methods accepted for the balance and deposit vary by supplier. A credit card may be required for a deposit hold; check the terms of your selected car. Some suppliers accept debit cards for both balance and deposit, but confirm this detail in your voucher. The card you present must have a limit high enough to cover both the balance and the full deposit amount.
A listing that states no deposit is required means the supplier does not hold or charge a security amount. This condition is independent of insurance coverage and cancellation terms; check each element separately on the listing page.
Checking Your Voucher
Your voucher lists the payment schedule, accepted card types, deposit amount and currency. Read it carefully before you travel. If the voucher specifies credit card required and you only have a debit card, contact the supplier using the details in the voucher to ask whether they can accommodate you. Do not send card numbers, CVV codes or expiry dates to this website or by email.
If your card limit is lower than the combined balance and deposit, ask your bank to increase it temporarily. Make sure the increase is confirmed before your pickup date.
Cancellation and Refunds
Each listing displays its cancellation policy during the booking process. Some vehicles offer free cancellation up to a certain point; others apply a fee or are non-refundable. The policy you agree to at the time of booking governs any refund of the online advance.
If you cancel within the free period, the prepayment is returned according to the supplier's processing schedule. If you cancel after the deadline or choose a non-refundable rate, the advance is not refunded. Changes to your booking may also incur fees. Review the terms on the confirmation page and in your voucher.
Additional Charges
Additional drivers and child seats, where offered, usually carry extra fees payable at pickup. Optional insurance upgrades, GPS units and other extras are also settled locally unless included in the online price. The voucher breaks down what you have already paid and what remains due.
Fuel policies vary. Read the fuel policy in your listing and record the level at handover. If you return the vehicle with less fuel, the supplier deducts the cost from your deposit or charges your card.
What do I pay online when I book?
You pay an advance by card through the booking widget. The amount is shown on the listing and is separate from the balance and any security deposit at pickup.
When do I pay the remaining balance and deposit?
You pay any outstanding balance and provide the security deposit when you collect the vehicle. The supplier handles both transactions according to the terms in your voucher.
Can I use a debit card instead of a credit card?
Some suppliers accept debit cards for the balance and deposit; others require a credit card. Check the voucher for the card types accepted, and contact the supplier directly if you need clarification.
Does no deposit mean I do not need insurance?
No. A no-deposit listing means the supplier does not hold a security amount. Insurance coverage is a separate matter. Review the insurance terms on the listing page and in your voucher.
How do I get a refund if I cancel?
Refund eligibility depends on the cancellation policy you accepted at booking. If you cancel within the free period, the supplier processes the refund. If the rate is non-refundable or you cancel late, the advance is not returned.
